FAQ - CELLMASTER™ Roller Bottles

1. What is the difference between vented and non-vented lids?

Vented lids are manufactured so they sit slightly higher on the rim of the dishes. This allows uniform gas exchange within the dish. Non-vented lids sit flush with the rim of the dish, preventing any significant gas exchange. Filter caps on flasks and roller bottles are also referred to as vented; the filter allows gas exchange, while preventing contamination.

2. What is the difference between a GREINER polystyrene roller bottle and a GREINER PET roller bottle?

GREINER’s polystyrene bottles are sterile AND TC treated, while the PET bottles are sterile, but NOT TC treated. TC treatment allows a wide variety of cell types to adhere to the surface of the roller bottle and grow well, while only some hardy cell lines will adhere to the PET roller bottles. PET roller bottles are ideal for suspension cultures. The PET roller bottles are very sturdy, more flexible, and more resistant to cracking than polystyrene bottles.

3. Can my roller bottles be shipped by air?

The PET roller bottles CAN NOT be shipped by air. They are sensitive to changes in air pressure and may implode if the cabin loses pressure. The polystyrene roller bottles CAN be shipped by air.

4. Can I get vented caps with my roller bottles?

Yes. GREINER introduced in 2002 our polystyrene and PET roller bottles with vented filter caps.

5. Can I buy roller bottle caps separately?

GREINER does not sell caps separately as a standard catalog item.
